Liam Broady is praising Novak Djokovic’s willingness to always help tennis players and also the Serb’s efforts to help the game grow. Next week, Bosnia and Herzegovina will be hosting its first-ever ATP tournament. The Serbia Open – which is usually held in Belgrade – was relocated to Banja Luka for 2023 due to the ongoing renovations at the Novak Tennis Center in Belgrade.
Djokovic and his brother – who is the Serbia Open tournament director – made sure Banja Luka would get top-class courts ahead of their big day. “Let’s gooooo! I can’t wait. Novak helping out again after the two 250’s and challengers he put on with money out of his own pocket in Belgrade during COVID.

Unfortunately, the Djokovic family was recently hit by a setback. After hosting the Serbia Open for the past few years, there likely won’t be the Serbia Open in 2024. The reason is very simple – Ion Tiriac owns the licence and he rented it to the Serbia Open organizers through 2023.
The Djokovic family attempted to buy the licence from Tiriac but he refused to sell it. As a result, the Serbia Open organizers will have to look for an alternative solution. “First of all, I must say that the licence is not ours.
We leased it from its owner Ion Tiriac and now he wants it back. We wanted to buy the licence, to host the tournament in Serbia for many years to come, because we were successful – many people in the stands, ATP gave us excellent grades for all the efforts, but there is not much we can do when the owner doesn’t want to sell the licence. We have to respect that,” Djokovic told Sport Klub.
