Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is hoping to raise $1 million to help coronavirus relief efforts in the state through a GoFundMe page.
After Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his girlfriend Marissa Mowry got the go-ahead from the NCAA to have a GoFundMe to raise money for coronavirus relief, Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger is doing the same.
There was some drama earlier in the week when Lawrence and Mowry set up the page to help raise money and whether it was a violation of NCAA rules. The page initially came down as Clemson compliance hoped to avoid any issues, but it was given the all-clear by the NCAA who championed their efforts to do some good in these times.
The issue stems from student-athletes using their name, image and likeness for fundraising efforts. But once they got the all-clear from the NCAA, I wrote I hoped there would be other college football stars following Lawrence and Mowry’s lead and doing the same for their state and communities.
Ehlinger stepped up and is hoping to raise $1 million and considering the size of the Texas football fandom, I think there’s a great chance these great fans step up for the great cause and meet that goal.

For those who aren’t Texas football fans, I hope you will consider being Sam Ehlinger fans.
This is the type of person he is. He is a talented dual-threat quarterback for the Longhorns who may find himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation again this year. But as great as he is on the field, he’s even better off and this is an example of the selfless person he is.
Oklahoma and Texas give us one of the best rivalries in college football and I’d like to see that extend to charitable causes. I’d like to see Oklahoma players jumpstart their own fundraiser and see if they can match Ehlinger’s and we can use it as a bit of a spring scrimmage for early bragging rights before the Red River Shootout later this year.
