Greg Biffle teased a NASCAR Truck Series return with Kyle Busch’s team after hearing that the Triple Truck Challenge entry rule had been changed.
Greg Biffle may have retired from full-time NASCAR competition following the 2016 season, his 15th overall and 14th full season in the Cup Series, but that didn’t keep him from making a return to the sport last year.
Driving for Kyle Busch Motorsports, Biffle competed in a Truck Series race for the first time since November of 2004 when he piloted the #51 Toyota in the June race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Lack of recent experience didn’t stop him from taking the checkered flag for the first time since the June Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway in the 2013 season.
The 50-year-old Vancouver, Washington native has hinted that he could return to the sport again in the 2020 season. Now he is lobbying Kyle Busch himself for another opportunity, and there is one particular reason why.
Last year’s June race at Texas Motor Speedway was the first of three races of the inaugural Triple Truck Challenge, a challenge that pays a bonus of $50,000 to the winning team of any of the three events, an additional bonus of $150,000 to a team if they win two of the three events and a total bonus of $500,000 to a team if they win all three.
However, last year, there was an entry deadline requirement for Triple Truck Challenge eligibility. Because Biffle did not meet that requirement and had only intended to compete at Texas Motor Speedway, he was unable to compete for these bonuses in the final two events at Iowa Speedway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
He ended up not competing in either one of them at all.
For 2020, that entry deadline requirement has been removed, and Biffle wants to make sure that Busch is fully aware of that, for obvious reasons.
This year’s three races of the Triple Truck Challenge are scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18, Friday, May 1 and Friday, May 15 at Richmond Raceway, Dover International Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, respectively.
Will Greg Biffle be back behind the wheel of a Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota in the 2020 NASCAR Truck Series season, possibly for the whole Triple Truck Challenge? He certainly isn’t being shy about lobbying for that opportunity, especially after last year.
